Fragments of tiles for well lining; one with carefully profiled upper flange; the other with lead clamp for mending crack.
One set of these tiles remained in place in the well shaft; the others had fallen in, in many fragments, of which these two are samples. Flanges of varying profile, usually showing a shallow rebate along inner edge to receive the bottom of the tile next above. Clay fairly fine, well baked, from buff to russet; traces of cream slip.
