trial_description_8:
a) A fragment from the lower left corner of a flat eaves tile. On its outer face, a band of laurel leaves and berries in white on black. Along the edge, above and below, a red band.
Decoration much peeled.
b) Several large fragments, joining fragment a) (Ζ 1269), making the tile complete save for a small fragment from the middle and small breaks (see below).
The lateral lugs have been cut away; one of the lateral flanges, the left, has been chipped away roughly. High curved side flanges; a small half-round across the top. On the face a band of laurel with leaves and berries reserved against a black background. Along the lower edge, top and bottom, a purple band.
Buff clay, tempered with crushed tile, the outer face surface with pale yellow clay.
(These fragments, and A 869 (Ζ1546) and A 870 (Ζ1548) were found in the kitchen dump along with many Tholos tile, yet they would seem certainly not to be from the roof of the building. The removal of their lateral lugs and flanges and the rubbed state of their tops, suggest that they had been employed for some utilitarian purpose around the building, conceivable as tabletops.)
