trial_description_8:
Bottom and left side preserved including cut face below flange on front end of tile. Top surface picked away with the point on the left side. This indicates that this was one of the cover tiles that came behind a lion head, and the chipping away is to prevent the tiles being visible behind the lion.
From Stoa of Attalos.
Pentelic marble.
Nos. A 1579 (ΣΑ 705), A 1580 (ΣΑ 706) and A 1581 (ΣΑ 707) were found together. Some show blackening by fire; all are cracked. Also with these pieces were fragments of an antefix.
