trial_description_8:
Mended from many fragments, few chips missing. Standard archaic water pipe with short tongue and flat-topped flange at upper end, long tongue and open flange at lower end. Carefully cut oval setting hole near upper end. Ridge at bottom of each flange. Pinkish buff clay, light buff surface. Band of dilute red to brown glaze around end of long tongue and on inside. Water deposit in bottom third of pipe. Dipinti in broad red lines. Also neatly cut graffiti on flanges: 1) only single stroke preserved, fragment of flange next to left missing; 2) on lower flange. From this same series also A 2601 (Τ 3587) and A 2602 (Τ 3588). For discussion of graffiti and dipinti see notebook p. 6157.
