trial_description_8:
Fragment from upper end of a tile, the weathering indicates an overlap of ca. 0.045m. Island marble. The three fragments A 2682, A 2683 and A 2684 may be assigned with certainty to the same roof because of their complete congruity on material, workmanship, dimension and weathering. In view of the propinquity of the finding place and the strikingly fresh condition of the fragments, they come in all likelihood from the Temple of Hephaistos. Their presence in a context of the second half of the 3rd c. A.D. suggests that the roof of the building had suffered at the hands of the Herulians in A.D. 267.
