Preserved height is probably close to original height, not much worn on top to judge for dowel leading. In top at 0.30m. from right side and 0.29m. from present front, 0.22m. from present back, a dowel with lead still in place. On bottom, 0.05m. from right side and 0.40m. from bottom molding, part of a dowel hole. Corner of a second dowel hole 0.30m. from right side and 0.107m. from bottom of soffit molding. Cuttings on top for reuse as a doorsill. The small size of the dowels would be unusual for a geison of a building of any size. Since so little (max. 0.055m.) of the projection in front of the molding is preserved, one cannot be sure this was a geison of a building. It may have been a crown of a monument base. Flaky shale-like gray-white marble. After examination of the single remaining geison block on the site of the Temple of Athena at Sounion it seems beyond reasonable doubt that this piece is not only a geison but actually one of the Temple of Athena series.
