trial_description_8:
a) Mended from nine fragments preserving part of the lip at one end of the pipe and, in places, over half of the full original circumference. Inside surface is heavily wheel-ridged with heavy mineral incrustation indicating bottom of pipe when in place. Brown-red to black glaze on lip and in two bands around belly.
b) Fragment from wall, broken all around except in area of smooth edge which was part of the circumference of the clean-out hole of the pipe.
c) Fragment of the clean-out hole lit from the same pipe. Broken on two sides. Fragment b) fits with this piece with regard to wheel ridges, showing that clean-out lid was simply cut out of the unbaked clay. Note that joining edges of b) and c) have similar scratches and imperfections in mirror image.
Gritty, slightly micaceous, pink clay.
