Two joining fragments of a cyma reversa molding. Complete except for chip at back where the break is. One end has anathyrosis; the other forms a corner. There is an upper and lower band of anathyrosis on the back, finished with a claw chisel; the interior is left roughly picked. The band of anathyrosis on the end is finished with a rasp and the rest of the end with a claw chisel. The exterior surface is finished with a rasp and polished. Iron pins were inserted 0.047m. from either end - in each case a horizontal pin ran in from the back and a vertical pin down from the top. The pins are missing near the corner end where the molding is broken, but the shafts can be seen. The top surface is flat; unlike the fragment of molding A 4173 (ΒΕ 71) and the molding in situ around the orthostates of the Early Altar. Details of workmanship and the profile and dimensions are otherwise the same for this piece and those in place. This may be a repair, done contemporaneously with the setting of the orthostates. The position of the pins makes a later repair, at a time when the orthostates were already in place, unlikely. White marble. Slightly traces of pigment.
