Part of a stag 's horn.
The main horn is cut off neatly above and below, with a long projecting tine at the bottom. The back of the horn is smoothed to lie flat against the wall; near the top a hole is bored for a large flat-head nail to fasten it to the wall.
The wear on the projecting tine indicates many hangings.
"It is an antler, cervus elaphus (red deer)" (Phelps, 1966).
