Shell broken in two, revealing a cross section of pigment with which it is filled.
The coloring matter in this shell is a dry substance, not flaky, consisting mostly of red-orange. At the top of the shell beneath the red-orange is a little patch of chrome
yellow. Gettens sample no.s 11, 12
"It is a fragment of Acanthocardia Tuberalata" (D.S. Reese, January, 1984).
"Both pigments reported by M.Farnsworth to be oxides of lead".
